Position Overview
ASAP is seeking an experienced, highly skilled Low Voltage Technician with deep expertise in fire alarm and access control systems. This senior field role focuses on advanced installations, system commissioning, troubleshooting, and project leadership on commercial and institutional sites. Travel to customer sites is required (never on weekends). Company truck, laptop, and cell phone provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead installation, configuration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fire alarm systems (panels, detectors, NACs, interfaces) and enterprise access control systems (controllers, readers, credentials, integrations).
- Perform complex troubleshooting, root-cause diagnostics, and repairs for life‑safety systems and access control networks.
- Read and interpret plans, riser diagrams, Schedules of Values, and system integration documents; verify as‑installed documentation.
- Ensure installations meet NFPA, NEC, ADA, manufacturer requirements, and local/state fire codes; prepare punch lists and correct deficiencies.
- Program control panels, NACs, access control software, and integrate systems (fire-to-access, CCTV, mass notification) as required.
- Lead or mentor junior technicians on-site; provide direction on best practices, wiring standards, and safety.
- Coordinate with project managers, AHJs, and electrical contractors to schedule inspections, testing, and acceptance.
- Complete detailed service reports, commissioning checklists, test records, and as‑built documentation.
- Provide clear customer communication on system operation, maintenance needs, and recommended upgrades.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ field experience focused on fire alarm and access control systems; demonstrated history of large or multi-site commercial projects.
- In-depth knowledge of fire alarm devices, NACs, panels, initiating circuits, supervision, and life‑safety signaling.
- Strong experience with enterprise access control platforms (software and hardware), credentialing, and system integrations.
- Familiarity with NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), ADA, and local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements for life‑safety systems.
- Proven ability to program control panels and access control software, and perform networked system troubleshooting.
- Proficient with multimeters, test equipment, power tools, and low‑voltage termination best practices.
- Excellent diagnostic, organizational, and documentation skills; attention to detail under deadline and inspection pressure.
- Leadership or mentorship experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- NICET certification (fire alarm) and manufacturer/access-control certifications strongly preferred; technical schooling or equivalent experience a plus.
