What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospice Biller position at Appalachian Hospice?

At Appalachian Hospice, we provide essential end-of-life care through offices locations in Blairsville, Jasper, Calhoun and Cleveland. We are looking for a high-level Hospice Billing Specialist who understands the technical nuances of hospice reimbursement and can ensure our financial operations remain as healthy as our patient care. Willing to consider candidates who work some or fully remote but not someone living outside the State of Georgia.
Key Responsibilities:
- NOE Management: Take full ownership of Notice of Election (NOE) and NOTR submissions. You understand the critical 5-day filing window and can manage the appeals process for any untimely filings.
- Georgia Medicaid Expert: Manage complex Medicaid Room and Board billing for patients in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). This includes calculating the patient’s liability (cost of care) and ensuring accurate "pass-through" billing to the facility.
- Claims Submission: Prepare and submit clean Medicare (Part A), Medicaid, and private insurance claims, ensuring all clinical documentation supports the level of care billed.
- A/R & Denial Management: Monitor A/R aging reports and aggressively work denials, rejections, and ADRs (Additional Development Requests).
- KanTime Power User a Plus: Utilize KanTime to manage the full billing lifecycle, from intake and insurance verification to final claim submission.
- Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and hospice-specific billing regulations
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: 2 years of hospice-specific billing in the state of Georgia.
- Technical Skill: Proficiency in KanTime is a significant plus.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Deep knowledge of Georgia Medicaid regulations including billing for Medicaid room and board as well as the Medicare Hospice Benefit.
- Accuracy: A "zero-error" mindset regarding NOE deadlines and minimal claims rejections.
