Infrastructure Engineering leader - Boston
Job Overview
An investment management client based in Boston is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineering leader to oversee core infrastructure platforms across a hybrid environment. This environment includes on-premises data centers, public cloud services, and SaaS solutions.
This role leads a team of infrastructure engineers responsible for maintaining operational excellence while delivering strategic initiatives that modernize and evolve core systems. The position plays a key role in shaping the organization’s technical direction and advancing critical services.
In addition to managing compute, storage, networking, identity, and platform services, this role will contribute to initiatives such as data center consolidation for disaster recovery, expansion of Microsoft 365 services, modernization of file and compute platforms, and lifecycle management of infrastructure technologies.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, continuously seeks improvement opportunities, and brings a balance of hands-on technical expertise and leadership capability. This individual will lead projects end-to-end and act as both an operational leader and a driver of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship capabilities, supporting the growth and development of team members
- Own the design, operation, and continuous improvement of a hybrid infrastructure environment, including:
- On-premises technologies (storage, servers, virtualization, backup, operating systems)
- Cloud platforms (container orchestration, storage services, search platforms)
- SaaS solutions (identity platforms, messaging, access management tools)
- Establish and maintain operational standards for monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, patching, and lifecycle management
- Drive adoption and maturity of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
- Manage and prioritize team workload, incidents, and service requests using tools such as Jira and service management platforms
- Develop and enforce IT standards, policies, procedures, and best practices
- Maintain a strong focus on security, ensuring adherence to best practices and timely remediation of issues
- Support audits (e.g., SOC1) and respond to client inquiries as required
- Provide guidance and leadership to improve team productivity and performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve escalated production issues, including root cause analysis
- Enhance and maintain documentation for troubleshooting and operational procedures
- Lead infrastructure projects holistically, identifying gaps and implementing automation where possible
- Participate in occasional after-hours support as needed
Qualifications
- Proven hands-on technical experience in infrastructure engineering
- 5 years of experience managing infrastructure or systems engineering teams in a production environment
- 5 years of experience designing, implementing, and managing infrastructure platforms such as:
- Active Directory and identity services
- Microsoft 365 ecosystem
- Federation services
- Virtualization platforms
- 2 years of experience driving DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or platform engineering practices
- Experience designing and supporting disaster recovery solutions within hybrid or multi-site environments
- Ability to define long-term infrastructure strategy and develop technology roadmaps
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and build trusted relationships
Salary : $180,000 - $260,000
