Infrastructure Engineer

An investment management firm based in Boston is seeking an experienced infrastructure engineering leader to oversee and evolve core infrastructure across a hybrid environment spanning on premises data centers, public cloud, and SaaS solutions.

This role leads a team responsible for operational excellence while driving modernization initiatives and shaping the organization’s infrastructure strategy. A Tier 2 Systems Administration team also reports into this role to support service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship capabilities, supporting the growth and development of team members

• Own the design, operation, and continuous improvement of a hybrid infrastructure environment, including:

○ On premises technologies (storage, servers, virtualization, backup, operating systems)

○ Cloud platforms (container orchestration, storage services, search platforms)

○ SaaS solutions (identity platforms, messaging, access management tools)

• Establish and maintain operational standards for monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, patching, and lifecycle management

• Drive adoption and maturity of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices

• Manage and prioritize team workload, incidents, and service requests using tools such as Jira and service management platforms

• Develop and enforce IT standards, policies, procedures, and best practices

• Maintain a strong focus on security, ensuring adherence to best practices and timely remediation of issues

• Support audits such as SOC1 and respond to client inquiries as required

• Provide guidance and leadership to improve team productivity and performance

• Troubleshoot and resolve escalated production issues, including root cause analysis

• Maintain and enhance documentation for troubleshooting and operational procedures

• Lead infrastructure projects end to end, identifying gaps and implementing automation where possible

• Partner with internal teams to deliver strategic initiatives

• Participate in occasional after hours support as needed

Qualifications

• Proven hands on technical experience in infrastructure engineering

• At least five years of experience managing infrastructure or systems engineering teams in a production environment

• At least five years of experience designing, implementing, and managing infrastructure platforms, including:

○ Active Directory and identity services

○ Microsoft 365 ecosystem

○ Federation services

○ Virtualization platforms

• At least two years of experience driving DevOps, site reliability engineering, or platform engineering practices

• Experience designing and supporting disaster recovery solutions within hybrid or multi site environments

• Ability to define long term infrastructure strategy and develop technology roadmaps

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and build trusted relationships
