TECHNICAL DESIGNER

Apiece Apart is seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Designer to join our team on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of garment construction, fit and technical expertise. Experience in the contemporary women’s market is a plus. This role will partner closely with design, product development and production to ensure the integrity of each style is maintained from concept through bulk production.
The Technical Designer will be responsible for creating and managing technical packages, leading production fittings, communicating fit and construction corrections to vendors and upholding the brand’s standards of quality and fit across all product categories. Success in this role requires exceptional organization, strong cross-functional communication skills and a passion for delivering beautifully executed product.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead production fittings, partnering closely with design and production teams to ensure design intent and customer viability is maintained
- Initialize, maintain and update production tech packs throughout production lifecycle
- Communicate all necessary changes to factory partners through the use of sample specs, garment alterations, construction diagrams and pattern corrections
- Oversee and maintain weekly work flow of production samples for all seasons. This includes tracking samples, scheduling fittings, measuring garments and ensuring comments are processed in a timely manner
- Partner with the production team to ensure seasonal calendars are maintained and that production fit approvals, bulk TOP approvals and delivery timelines are met
- Oversee bulk grading and sizing across all categories
- Communicate daily with all external factory partners to resolve any issues related to the technical design process - measurements, grading, pattern corrections, constructions details, etc.
- Proactively identify and resolve potential issues related to garment fit, construction and quality
- Participate in line reviews and team-wide master fitting for each collection
- Support development stage technical work and fittings as needed
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion design, technical design, or related is preferred
- Minimum 6 years of direct technical design experience
- Experience fitting on live models
- Strong expertise in patternmaking and garment construction across multiple categories and fabrications including hard and soft wovens, tailoring, denim, and knits
- Comprehensive knowledge of sizing and grading across categories for both alpha and numeric size scales
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving and time management skills
- Strong work ethic with the ability to self motivate and work cross-functionally with other teams
- Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to product excellence
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Apple Procreate and Microsoft Office Suite
