The Strategic Account Manager is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of key, high-value customer accounts, while also supporting a group of secondary accounts within their territory. This role blends strategic sales and account growth with hands-on service and customer support. The individual in this position will focus on expanding Apex's presence within large, complex accounts, while ensuring all assigned customers receive consistent, high-quality service.

Job Summary
The Strategic Account Manager is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of key, high-value customer accounts, while also supporting a group of secondary accounts within their territory. This role blends strategic sales and account growth with hands-on service and customer support. The individual in this position will focus on expanding Apex's presence within large, complex accounts, while ensuring all assigned customers receive consistent, high-quality service.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a portfolio of key and secondary customer accounts within assigned territory
- Develop and execute account strategies to increase revenue, profitability, and customer retention
- Identify and drive equipment, chemical, and service growth opportunities within existing accounts
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customer stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization
- Perform routine and non-routine service visits to ensure water treatment programs are operating effectively
- Troubleshoot system and program issues and ensure timely resolution
- Support chemical feed, inventory management, and basic system adjustments as needed
- Coordinate with Field Service Representatives, technicians, and internal teams to support service delivery
- Prepare and present proposals, pricing, and recommendations to customers
- Conduct regular business reviews and maintain consistent communication with customers
- Track account performance and activity using internal systems
- Travel locally with occasional overnight travel as needed
- Adhere to and support all safety policies and guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years of technical sales/service experience in industrial water treatment
- Strong knowledge of cooling towers, boilers, closed-loop systems, and water treatment programs
- Demonstrated ability to manage customer relationships while driving sales growth
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Mechanical and technical aptitude with ability to diagnose and resolve issues
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage time across multiple priorities
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements
- Ability and willingness to physically perform service at customer sites
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to fulfill job duties, including overnight travel
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
- Five (5) plus years of experience in industrial water treatment or specialty chemicals
- Experience managing larger or more complex customer accounts
- Certified Water Technologist (CWT) certification
