Project Engineer- Electrical

Location: Hopkinton, Massachusetts (On-site)

Employment Type: Contract

Role Overview

This position supports the LNG Engineering & Technical Services group by providing design review, specification development, and overall support for plant electrical, instrumentation, and controls projects. The role involves a high level of knowledge of plant systems, including electrical switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, transmitters, and PLC/DCS systems. The engineer will guide the selection and integration of new equipment, manage projects within their discipline, and ensure all work complies with applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in project meetings, serving as the subject matter expert for instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.
  • Assist project managers in the planning, execution, engineering, and management of capital projects.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with NFPA 59A, 70E, 40 CFR 193, Article 500 of the NEC, and other applicable standards.
  • Support the development of project budgets, cost estimates, and bid specifications.
  • Manage and execute projects related to low and medium voltage power systems, controls systems, security systems, and instrumentation.
  • Respond to submittals and RFIs in a timely manner.
  • Support the development of new process and equipment procedures.
  • Identify and document lessons learned for future projects.
  • Provide on-site construction support, monitoring quality and providing feedback.
  • Travel to various sites within Massachusetts and one site in Connecticut as needed.

Required Qualifications

Education: An Associate's degree or higher is required.

Experience: 8-10 years of experience on an engineering, maintenance, technology, or construction project team supporting power, manufacturing, or process plant construction and maintenance.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of AC and DC power, hazardous area classifications, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, motors, UPS systems, instrumentation, and fiber optics.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and other technical documents.
  • Capability to perform basic calculations to confirm the sizing of equipment and conductors.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle for travel between sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with LNG is a significant plus.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated pay range for this position is $55.00/hr to $60.00/hr. Please note that the final pay rate will be determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience and qualifications.
