We are hiring an Employee Relations Specialist!

Role: Employee Relations Specialist (HR Contractor)

Supporting: Large Financial Services Client

Location: Hybrid – Pensacola, FL / Winchester, VA / Vienna, VA

Assignment Type: Contract Only

Duration: Approximately 6 months

Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity for an Employee Relations professional who thrives in high‑impact, people‑focused work. In this role, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, helping shape a fair, compliant, and engaging workplace culture. You’ll work on meaningful, complex employee relations matters; ranging from investigations and performance concerns to policy interpretation and organizational change, where your judgment, expertise, and influence truly matter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject‑matter resource for employee relations matters, providing guidance to both managers and employees
  • Conduct thorough, timely workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions, including disciplinary actions when needed
  • Analyze employee concerns related to performance, conduct, attendance, and policy adherence, ensuring fair and consistent outcomes
  • Create clear, accurate, and legally defensible documentation to support employee relations decisions
  • Apply federal, state, and local employment laws (EEO, AAP, FMLA, ADA, ADEA) in reviewing and resolving employee issues
  • Interpret policies and past practices to ensure consistency in adverse employment actions
  • Review performance documentation to ensure fairness, compliance, and accuracy
  • Analyze exit surveys, turnover, and employee data to identify trends and provide actionable recommendations
  • Partner with legal counsel and external law offices on litigation matters and case analysis
  • Represent the organization in unemployment hearings and appeals as needed
  • Support internal communications, HR projects, and cross‑functional initiatives
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new Employee Relations team members

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal employment regulations
  • Experience with leave and disability laws related to benefits, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, and substance abuse considerations
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, confidential environment
  • High level of integrity with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly
  • Advanced research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence and persuade
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and credibility with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency navigating multiple systems and adapting to new technologies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred: PHR/SHRM‑CP or SPHR/SHRM‑SCP certification

Compensation and Benefits: The pay rate for this position is between $19.00 and $29.00 per hour. Please note that the final rate may be contingent on experience and other factors.
