Job Description:
Apex Systems is hiring a DevOps/Infrastructure Engineer to support a large-scale modernization initiative for an enterprise technology client. This team is focused on backend optimization, AI-driven infrastructure improvements, and stabilizing on-prem Kubernetes environments.
The project involves working in a small, highly technical unit alongside senior engineers to test AI-generated improvement recommendations, enhance system reliability, and resolve complex networking issues within a service mesh environment.
Qualified candidates will have the following experience and skills:
Location: Hoffman Estates, IL
Onsite Expectation: 3 days onsite (Tuesday-Thursday)
Assignment Length: 3 months (possible extension or conversion based on performance)
Hours: 40 hours/week, CST
Pay Range: $50-60/hr

Apex Systems is hiring a DevOps/Infrastructure Engineer to support a large-scale modernization initiative for an enterprise technology client. This team is focused on backend optimization, AI-driven infrastructure improvements, and stabilizing on-prem Kubernetes environments.
The project involves working in a small, highly technical unit alongside senior engineers to test AI-generated improvement recommendations, enhance system reliability, and resolve complex networking issues within a service mesh environment.
Qualified candidates will have the following experience and skills:
- Expertise using GitHub Copilot for development and troubleshooting
- 5-7 years of experience with .NET C# microservices and React
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes (on-prem), including Istio, Flannel, kube-proxy, CoreDNS, and distributed networking
- Deep troubleshooting experience with service mesh, sidecar injection, mTLS, Envoy, VXLAN, iptables/IPVS, and NodeLocal DNSCache
- Proficiency with Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, Apache Druid, and ELK
- Strong networking and packet-level debugging using tcpdump, Wireshark, Jaeger, and distributed tracing tools
- Experience building or integrating Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for infrastructure operations, metrics retrieval, log querying, and AI-powered diagnostics
- Experience connecting LLMs/AI tools (e.g., Claude) to infrastructure for automated troubleshooting, anomaly detection, and incident orchestration
