Apex Maintenance Group is expanding its Metro Detroit field team and is seeking an experienced Door Installation & Finish Carpentry Technician for residential, commercial, rental-turnover, and property-management projects throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties.
This is a specialized carpentry position. We are looking for someone with real experience installing and repairing doors, frames, jambs, trim, and finish carpentry components.
This is not a general handyman position. Apex is building specialized trade groups, and technicians are assigned primarily within the areas they have proven they can perform professionally.
The ideal candidate should be capable of receiving an approved scope, arriving at the property prepared, completing the work correctly, documenting the project through the Apex field system, and representing the company professionally with minimal supervision.

- Lockset and hardware installation

- Baseboard installation and repair
- Shoe molding and quarter round
- Crown molding when applicable
- Finish carpentry repairs
- Minor framing associated with door openings
- Rental-turnover door and trim repairs
- Punch-list carpentry
- Cabinet and trim adjustments
- Removing and replacing damaged wood components
What We Expect
Candidates should be able to independently identify and correct common door and finish-carpentry problems.
You should understand how to:
- Properly install and level prehung doors
- Shim and secure door frames correctly
- Maintain proper reveals
- Correct doors that rub, bind, sag, or fail to latch
- Diagnose frame, jamb, hinge, and alignment problems
- Measure accurately before ordering or cutting materials
- Install clean casing and trim
- Make accurate finish cuts
- Protect flooring, walls, and customer property
- Complete work to a professional finished standard
- Identify conditions requiring additional authorization before proceeding

Apex Field Management System
Apex Maintenance Group operates through a centralized field-management platform.
Technicians are expected to use the system for:
- Receiving work assignments
- Reviewing job scopes
- Confirming scheduling
- Checking in at the property
- Uploading before photos
- Documenting existing conditions
- Providing measurements when required
- Requesting authorization for additional work
- Uploading progress photos
- Uploading completion photos
- Entering completion notes
- Closing out work orders properly
Compliance with the Apex field system and company operating procedures is required for continued assignments.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of professional door installation or finish carpentry experience
- Demonstrated experience with interior and exterior doors
- Strong measuring and finish-carpentry skills
- Reliable transportation
- Valid driver's license

- Ability to travel throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties
- Ability to work independently

Preferred Experience
Additional experience in the following areas is valuable:

- Deck and fence carpentry
Additional experience does not mean technicians will automatically be assigned outside their primary trade. Apex verifies each skill category separately.
Compensation and Work Availability
Pay ranges from $24–$34 per hour, depending on verified experience, workmanship, productivity, reliability, and ability to independently complete assigned projects.
Higher compensation is reserved for technicians who can consistently handle complete door and finish-carpentry assignments without excessive supervision or callbacks.
Technicians who demonstrate strong performance will receive priority as Apex increases residential, commercial, investor, and property-management volume.
