Archbishop Curley is a Catholic college preparatory school for young men that operates in the Franciscan tradition. Founded in 1961, the 33-acre campus is located in East Baltimore, with ready access to the entire metropolitan area. The student body of 545 comes from private and public middle schools in some 80 zip codes, making it one of the most diverse schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The school’s mission is to “develop great men”.
The school is beginning a search for a new President, the Chief Executive Officer. The President will be the public face of the school and will act in liaison with the policy-making School Board, the School Office and the Archdiocese of Baltimore, the Conventual Franciscan Friars of our Lady of Angels Provence, the Curley Alumni, and the larger community. The President will assure that the school remains faithful to the Catholic-Franciscan traditions while also looking toward future sustainability.
The President serves as the Archbishop Curley leader and ambassador with focused responsibilities on institutional advancement; and will embody, manifest, and advocate Catholic faith and spirituality while promoting a culture of community and belonging that promotes the social and emotional wellness of all students. The President will oversee the facilitation and coordination of spiritual, academic and community programs.
Essential Functions:
Mission:
- Provide faith-based leadership to ensure the school is faithful to its Catholic-Franciscan tradition and mission.
- Infuse Franciscan teachings throughout the day-to-day life at the school.
- Assist the Campus Minister in providing a spiritually enriching program of prayer, retreats and service that complements the classroom experience.
- Foster the spirit of the Curley “Brotherhood” and “Family” traditions and help to build the correlating support for the mission.
Executive Leadership:
- Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the school.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to accomplish all duties and responsibilities outlined by the School Board to further and maintain the school’s Mission.
- Coordinate with the Chair, Committees and Members of the School Board to assist their deliberative work, and to guarantee that policies and decisions are implemented.
- Build, retain, develop and nurture a high-performance leadership team.
- Foster a vibrant, inclusive, diverse and safe school culture.
- Empower direct reports to act, delegating appropriate responsibilities, coaching and monitoring outcomes, to ensure accountability, collaboration and success.
- Work as the liaison with the Archdiocese of Baltimore to ensure all requirements are satisfied.
Financial Health
- Oversee fiscal management of the school and assist the Finance Office in preparing and maintaining the annual budget.
- Project and prioritize the financial needs of the school with the Finance Office and the School Board.
- Ensure proper financial controls are in place and utilized.
- Enact financial metrics that identify potential emerging problems.
- Oversee fundraising, advancement, alumni relations, student recruitment, operations and marketing initiatives to ensure financial stability and growth.
- Develop and implement long term strategic plans in partnership with the School Board and the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
- Assist the Advancement Office in developing and maintaining fundraising strategy, capital campaign and other activities in order to provide annual growth in levels of support for the school and the Endowment.
Operations
- Oversee the maintenance, improvement, safety and preservation of the school’s campus and buildings.
- Oversee, prioritize and schedule all improvements and capital projects at the school.
- Ensure the operation of the school and all employment matters, including recruitment, retention, dismissal of personnel, salaries and contracts, job assignments, and performance evaluations, are in compliance with Archdiocese of Baltimore and School Board policies, as well as applicable State and Federal laws.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff and visitors.
- Encourage innovation and creativity in all aspects of the operation of the school and consider the implementation of new and updated advancements.
Academic Integrity
- Supervise and coordinate with the principal to assure that the academic and co-curricular programs serve the needs of the student body.
- Work with the Principal in continuing to build a committed and caring faculty and staff.
- Encourage the continuous improvement of curriculum design, instruction, and assessment practices, fostering an environment of intellectual rigor and academic success for all students.
- Ensure the school’s academic programs maintain the standards required by the applicable accreditation organizations and the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
- Promote and support the development and evaluation of school-wide curricular and extracurricular goals, promoting a holistic approach to student development.
Institutional Advancement and Community Relations
- Cultivate a strong and transparent relationship with the School Board to ensure open communication regarding the measurement of performance against stated milestones and goals.
- Be the face of the school and represent the school at community, diocesan and regional levels to strengthen its reputation.
- Represent Archbishop Curley to external constituencies, including individual donors, businesses, parishes, institutional partners, alumni, community organizations and others through off-campus meetings, speaking engagements and attendance at varied events with existing and new audiences.
- Ensure that the school and its mission is marketed to alumni, prospective students and the larger community utilizing up to date technology and media.
- Work with the Alumni Director to encourage alumni participation in school initiatives to grow alumni support of the school and its mission.
- Assist and support Advancement in its fundraising calendar, communications, building of personal relationships with major donors and community partners, seeking of grants and planning for and participating in capital campaigns.
- Find and capture new and innovative alternative revenue sources for the school.
Position Qualifications:

The qualifications of the ideal candidate would include:

Minimum of 10 years executive leadership in Catholic education (Catholic preferred).

Broad knowledge of overall operations of a successful and integrated organization including all departments as well as maintenance of the physical plant.

Proven experience in revenue generation and the ability and willingness to assist in fundraising and development.

Advanced education (Doctorate preferred).

Practicing Catholic; ready to be a spiritual leader and committed to the Catholic-Franciscan tradition of the school.

Demonstrated ability to encourage and promote faith formation and advancement and to instill a desire for growth in the students, faculty and staff.

Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans in collaboration with a Board and auxiliary organizations.

The ability to balance the current needs and traditions of the school with the future requirements to provide for the stability and growth of the school.

Experience leading in an urban environment with a diverse community.

Excellent public speaking skills and effective communicator.

Ability to disseminate new ideas that will promote the values of “Brotherhood” and “Family” critical to the core of the Archbishop Curley traditions while supporting the mission.
