Fire Protection Project Engineer (Remote – California Only)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Project Engineer to join our team. This position offers remote work flexibility within the state of California. The engineer will lead fire protection system design for medium-complexity projects, including fire suppression, fire alarm, life safety, and code compliance evaluations.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in fire protection engineering, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams while working independently in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards including NFPA 1, 10, 13, 14, 17A, 20, 24, 25, 30, 45, 72, 75, 80, 90A, 92B, 96, 99, 101, 110, 220, and 2001.
- Perform technical reviews of life safety systems.
- Conduct engineering studies and prepare formal reports with findings and recommendations.
- Complete engineering calculations (hydraulic, seismic, voltage drop, battery, etc.).
- Develop system design layouts for fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and special hazard systems.
- Prepare and edit project specifications.
- Ensure all designs meet local, state, and national code requirements.
- Manage project teams to ensure on-time delivery.
- Coordinate with vendors, agencies, and internal departments.
- Conduct occasional site visits within California to verify existing conditions and observe installations.
- Respond to RFIs and review submittals.
- Use tools such as Revit, AutoSPRINK, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
- 6–11 years of experience in fire protection design or related engineering discipline.
- Must be located in the state of California to be eligible for this remote role.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of fire protection codes and design practices.
- Ability to produce code-compliant and constructible design documents.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Strong time management and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoSPRINK, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
