What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Architect, Principal position at Anton Paar QuantaTec Inc?
We’re hiring a Systems Architect (Principal-level) for next-generation analytical instrumentation.
This is a role for someone who doesn’t just design systems—they define them from the ground up.
At Anton Paar QuantaTec, you’ll own the architecture of complex scientific instruments spanning optics, electronics, embedded software, mechanics, and data systems. You’ll take ambiguous product concepts and turn them into structured, scalable architectures that guide entire engineering teams from concept through production.
This is not a component design role. It is full system ownership.
You will be responsible for:
- Defining system architectures and subsystem boundaries
- Making critical trade-offs across performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability
- Leading cross-functional alignment across hardware, software, and physics domains
- Driving integration strategy and system-level technical decisions
We’re looking for people who have personally owned system architecture, not just contributed to it—those who naturally think in interfaces, decomposition, and trade-offs at the system level.
If you’ve taken complex electro-mechanical or instrumentation systems from concept to production and made the hard architectural decisions along the way, this is likely your kind of role.
Education and Experience
The Systems Architect typically needs a combination of education, training, certifications and skills. This role requires the following:
- BS in Engineering, Physical Sciences or Mathematics
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in product development
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering or physics
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse team
- Strong ability to manage projects and deliver work assignments on time, within budget and at top quality
- Demonstrated experience generating technical documentation such as requirements, specifications, engineering report, plans and procedures
- Significant knowledge with requirements management software tools
Preferred skills include:
- PhD in Engineering, Physical Sciences or Mathematics
- MS in Engineering, Physical Sciences or Mathematics
- Experience in product or instrument development
- Experience in requirements management and test plan development
- Experience in project management
- Experience in precision instrumentation design
- Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
Supervision Exercised
This role is an individual contributor who is a leader and/or member of multiple teams and is closely aligned with Engineering and Product Development teams.
