POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Marine Mechanic Department: Boat Rentals

Salary Range: $17.00 to $21.00 Reports to: Boat Rentals Manager

Employment Status: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-exempt


POSITION SUMMARY

The Marine Mechanic position performs a compilation of duties and responsibilities which includes but is not limited to: marine mechanic, maintenance helper, fiberglass helper, and help perform all aspects of the turnaround process. Main objective is to repair and adjust mechanical equipment of inboard or inboard-outboard boat engines. The Marine Mechanic position is flexible, willing to help out wherever needed, comfortable working outside in extreme heat and cold and committed to delivering the highest quality of work possible. The Marine Mechanic must be able to perform all duties with limited supervision. The Marine Mechanic must work with the Dock Coordinator and mechanic team to identify, implement training and learning goals for their chosen field of expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION & DUTIES

  • Disassemble, troubleshoot and inspect motors to locate defective parts, using mechanic's hand tools and gauges.
  • Exceptional customer service skills for interaction with guest, and customers.
  • Liaise with service writer(s), customer(s), team members to determine issue(s) and communicate continuously.
  • Prepare work orders through Commander software for efficient and effective workflow.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on vessel(s).
  • Demonstrate safe and sound work practices.
  • Operate heavy machinery in a safe manner.
  • Replace parts, diagnose and repair inboard/outboard engines.
  • Document tasks such as, inspections, testing, and work performed.
  • Possess the ability to react productively to other duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledging on conducting routine services and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge on inspecting for faults and repairs.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment required to complete task(s).
  • Excellent customer service skills. Boat operation knowledge required.
  • Mercury Certified Outboard Technician highly preferred.
  • SeaDoo Technician Certification highly preferred.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred. No minimum required.

EXPERIENCE

1 to 3 years mechanic and maintenance experience or trade school equivalent.

  • Knowledge of APM marina services and amenities.
  • Skills which allow for the tactful resolution of guest problems or concerns.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in fire extinguisher operation.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in ISO/EMS awareness.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in employee orientation.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazard communication.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazardous materials response/respiratory protection.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in emergency response.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in recyclable materials.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in blood borne pathogen awareness.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The performance of stated functions and duties may occur in, but are not limited to: office settings, confined spaces such as boat hulls, public or common areas such as restaurant or retail establishment; inclement weather conditions may be a factor including rain, snow, wind, extreme temperatures. General industry levels of noise and stimuli should be expected in all settings.

*Controllable working conditions (i.e. temperature, lighting) may be altered to create a more conducive working environment for staffing needs, however such accommodations shall not create an undue hardship on the Company or other staff members.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands of the position may include, but are not limited to sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying and otherwise maneuvering heavy objects with or without assistance. Climbing, crouching, reaching, extending and other bodily movements in work areas such as boats, office settings, docks

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

It is important that the incumbent be able to communicate effectively in English including speaking, understanding, reading, and writing for the purpose of general interactions with staff, guests and customers. Additional linguistic proficiency is welcomed and encouraged, but not required for the performance of the position.
