TITLE: Mechanic
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Twelve (12) Months
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Classified Salary
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide skilled support services to ensure the safe and efficient operation of school district vehicles.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
TECHNICAL – MECHANIC
- Repairs and maintains vehicles
- Maintains vehicle repair and maintenance records
- Performs routine and preventive vehicle maintenance
- Maintains tools, parts and equipment inventory
- Notifies the supervisor of all unusual problems and concerns affecting the transportation operation
- Participates in various training sessions to upgrade skills
- Performs other related tasks as assigned
BUS DRIVING
- Serves as a substitute bus driver
- Maintains a clean and safe transportation facility
- Obeys all traffic laws, observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
- Enforces all bus regulations set forth by the district and state
- Inspects bus twice daily before each operation for mechanical defects
- Notifies proper authority immediately in case of mechanical failure or tardiness
- Transports and discharges authorized students only, and only at authorized stops
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports
- Participate in student safety training
- Reports undisciplined behavior to appropriate staff
- Assures that students follow safety rules when boarding and disembarking bus
- Collects student personal items left on the bus; returns to appropriate staff member(s)
- Drives only on assigned bus routes insuring timely pickup and discharge of students
- Prepares reports as required
- Keeps assigned bus clean
- Performs other related tasks as assigned
CERTIFICATION: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
HIGH RISK OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION: Works with hazardous materials and with large vehicles; works in confined spaces.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to pass annual physical
- Ability to pass annual drug test
- Successful completion of first aid training
- Successful completion of road test
- Prior bus driving experience desirable
- Demonstrated ability to repair vehicles
- Preventive maintenance; proper repair procedures, for vehicles to ensure the safety of vehicle users, proper use and maintenance of equipment
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Extensive knowledge of gasoline/diesel engines, diagnostic equipment and public vehicle regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE: More than three years experience
SUPERVISION: Must use own initiative and judgment
RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for valuable equipment and tools
LICENSE: Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License
