Purpose Statement:
The Exceptional Child Services (ECS) Paraprofessional is an integral member of the ECS team that collaboratively provides support and interventions to help all students access learning and experience success in and out of the classroom. Under the direction of certified staff, the ECS Paraprofessional supports students in developing academic, behavioral, communication, social-emotional, and independent living skills within inclusive educational settings.
Essential Functions:
Provide direct support to students with disabilities in general education classrooms, small groups, and individual settings as directed by certified staff.
Implement instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional supports outlined in student IEPs, behavior plans, and other intervention plans.
Assist students in accessing grade-level curriculum through accommodations, modifications, prompting, and instructional support.
Support student independence by encouraging self-advocacy, problem-solving, and skill development.
Collect and document student performance data as directed by special education staff.
Assist with implementation of behavior support plans and school-wide behavior systems while maintaining student dignity and respect.
Support students during transitions, recess, lunch, fieldwork, and other school activities as assigned.
Collaborate effectively with teachers, specialists, administrators, and families to support student success.
Assist in preparing instructional materials, organizing learning environments, and maintaining classroom resources.
Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws.
Participate in training, staff meetings, team meetings, and professional development activities as required.
Support personal care, health, mobility, or safety needs of students when required by student plans and training.
Model positive behavior, professionalism, and strong character for students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to meet Idaho paraprofessional requirements or willingness to obtain required qualifications.
Experience working with children preferred.
Knowledge of child development, behavior support strategies, and inclusive practices preferred.
Ability to follow instructional plans and directions from certified staff.
Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
