General Description
Provides overall on-site leadership on a construction project site. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in paving and compaction to D.O.T. standards, full-depth patch and chip sealing to D.O.T standards.
Key Duties
- Provides direction, training and assistance to asphalt crews
- Spends time on job sites to ascertain progress, ensure schedules are met and ensure resources are being used efficiently
- Able to interpret drawings/blueprints and relay to field personnel for execution
- Measures slope and material thickness to verify compliance with specifications
- Communicates daily with superintendent, project managers and other staff to discuss schedule and production concerns
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality and crew performance
- Responsible for setting up materials, trucking, equipment and labor for various paving projects
- Maintains time and materials records necessary to complete daily logs and daily job costings
- Adheres to company policy
- All other duties as assigned
Qualification Requirements
- Must have an ability to work a non-traditional work schedule.
- Valid NC driver’s license, good driving record and insurable by vehicle insurance company
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Must have good communication skills and be able to communicate professionally with General Contractors, project managers, inspectors, customers, employees and other stakeholders
- Three (3) to five (5) years or more of industry related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on asphalt and paving
- Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception
- Work Environment.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work may be performed on a non-traditional work schedule which may occasionally include nights and/or weekends.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on a construction site such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt.
