What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Anonymous?
About the Role
An established, privately held company in Wheeling, IL is hiring a Senior Accountant. You will own the accounting cycle end to end — daily transactions and reconciliations through month-end close, financial statements, and the analysis management uses to run the business — reporting directly to the Assistant Controller.
We are a company of roughly 60 people doing more than $20 million in annual sales, in business for over 50 years. That size is the point of the job: nothing here is siloed. You will see the whole set of books rather than one slice of them, your work will reach leadership without passing through many layers, and when you find a better way to do something, you will be the one who implements it. It suits an accountant who wants range and ownership, and who would rather solve a problem than route a ticket.
What You Will Do
• Own the month-end close and prepare monthly financial statements for management.
• Review general ledger activity, create journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Reconcile key balance sheet accounts — cash, prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, notes payable, and others.
• Maintain fixed asset records, including capitalization and depreciation schedules.
• Track cash flow and prepare forecasts that give leadership a clear picture of the business.
• Support AP, AR, billing, collections, and payroll accounting as needed.
• Handle sales tax filings, income tax support, year-end reporting, and requests from outside accountants and auditors.
• Build reports and analysis that inform real decisions, and improve the processes and controls behind them.
What You Need
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5 years of accounting experience.
• Solid command of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and the month-end close.
• Experience preparing reconciliations, financial statements, and cash flow reports.
• Strong Excel — formulas, pivot tables, and analysis you can build yourself.
• Experience with an accounting system or ERP.
• The judgment to work independently, manage competing priorities, and explain financial results to people who do not do accounting for a living.
Nice to Have
• Experience in a small or mid-sized business.
• Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central.
• CPA or CPA candidate.
Compensation and Benefits
• $80,000 – $90,000 annually, depending on experience.
• Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
• 401(k) with employer match.
• Vacation and paid personal time.
