Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our finance team! In this vital role, you will be responsible for providing daily accounting functions related to church operations, investment funds, stewardship, and other monetary contributions and donations by parishioner and outside organizations. Also, maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Your expertise will help support our organization’s financial health and transparency.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, maintain daily accounting functions related to stewardship, contributions, donations, and investment funds; enter pledges, payables, and prepare checks for accounts payable invoices, balance cash on hand with general ledger using accounting software (Church Windows).
- Track and prepare contribution reports.
- Preparation of General Ledger, Treasurer's Report and Balance Sheets for monthly Parish Council Meetings in addition to other financial reports as needed/requested by Parish Council President and Parish Council Treasurer.
- Conduct bank reconciliations regularly to verify financial transactions align with bank statements.
- Prepare checks and updates related the investment fund.
- Maintain employee payroll records and process biweekly payroll with outside payroll processing company.
- Assemble information and attend meetings for an annual audit of church accounting practices.
- Assist Parish Council Treasurer with annual Greek Festival and Chairpersons of other fundraisers.
Qualifications
- Most possess excellent verbal and communication skills and be able to work well with all members of the parish, parish council, parish ministries, and organizations both internal and external.
- Associate's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience.
- Must have excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to work autonomously with minimal direction.
- Must have excellent prioritization and organizational skills.
- Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in church or other office environment preferred.
- Must be proficient with Excel
- Payroll preparation to include knowledge of Federal, State, and local tax filing requirements and filing necessary documentation.
- Excellent word processing skills; use of Microsoft Office products and knowledge of software used for accounting and data reporting required.
- Knowledge of Google Drive preferred; demonstrated skill with Church Windows desireable
Pay: $38,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
