Corporate Safety Manager (West Region)

Department: Corporate Risk & Safety Reports To: Director of Risk & Safety (Corporate) Location: Chicago Corporate Office, Southern California, Northern California, or Las Vegas Travel: Approx. 25-40% (3-4 full weeks per quarter)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Corporate Safety Program Manager (West Region) plays a key role in advancing Anning-Johnson Company's safety culture and risk management strategy across multiple trades and districts. This is a corporate governance and program development role, not a site-based safety position.

As part of the Corporate Risk & Safety team, this individual designs, implements, and standardizes company-wide safety programs, policies, and training initiatives. Using data analysis, incident trends, and root cause insights, they ensure consistent compliance, communication, and continuous improvement across all operating districts.

The ideal candidate brings both field credibility and corporate acumen - combining hands-on construction experience with several years in a district or regional safety management capacity where they've led program development, training, and policy implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Safety Governance & Program Design

  • Develop, update, and govern corporate-level safety policies, procedures, and compliance programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, and company standards.

  • Standardize best practices across districts to ensure consistent implementation and accountability.
  • Partner with district and corporate leadership to align safety programs with operational goals and district strategy.

Data Analysis, Reporting & Communication

  • Conduct detailed root-cause analyses following incidents or near-misses and prepare actionable corporate summaries for leadership.

Training, Collaboration & Engagement

  • Develop and deliver corporate safety training modules, campaigns, and communication materials that reinforce a proactive safety culture.
  • Collaborate closely with District Safety Officers to provide guidance, share insights, and support consistent application of company standards.
  • Support leadership in coaching, mentoring, and capability building within district safety teams.

Compliance Oversight & Continuous Improvement

  • Manage corporate safety audit programs and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively across all regions.
  • Serve as a liaison with insurance representatives, regulatory agencies, and third-party auditors.
  • Identify emerging regulatory changes, industry trends, and technologies to strengthen company programs and improve leading indicators.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Education

  • 3 years in a safety management role within a large, self-performing construction environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Construction Management, Risk Management, or related field preferred.
