Anne Arundel County Government is currently hiring for a full-time, permanent Permit Specialist (Planning Technician II) position in the Office of Inspections and Permits.

The Department of Inspections and Permits strives to provide the citizens of Anne Arundel County with the highest inspection standards that are consistent with adopted codes and regulations. This is accomplished through the consistent and equitable application of regulations in the built and natural environment. It is done through plans review, inspections, enforcement, and the issuance of permits and licenses.
 
 The Permit Center takes in all building, grading, and trade permits.

NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves responsibility for the orderly and timely processing and issuance of new and revised commercial and residential grading, building, and trade permit applications. Work involves assisting customers in understanding permitting requirements and assessing/collecting required application fees. Work involves frequent contact with the general public, property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, and County agencies.(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class.   • Accept, review, distribute, and enter a computerized record of permit application;
  •  Identify and assign required reviewers, process financial transactions, issue permits;
  •  Assist Permit Processors with processing permit applications and implementing procedural changes;
  •  Provide information to the general public, property owners, consultants, and County agencies on the procedures for submitting permit applications and calculating permit fees;
  •  Review residential site plans for setback requirements.
  •  Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the permit application process and forms;
  •  Knowledge of zoning classifications and setback requirements;
  •  Strong customer service skills;
  •  Ability to read and interpret site plans, architectural plans, and associated construction documents;
  •  Strong data entry background;
  •  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  •  Ability to write and speak effectively and convey permitting requirements.
  •  Ability to maintain effective work relationships with the public.
Education: Graduation from high school.
Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in planning, subdivision control, and zoning enforcement work; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Note: Two (2) or more years of experience in planning, subdivision control, and zoning enforcement work may be substituted with two (2) or more years of experience in permitting and/or land development, and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
  1. Experience with the permit process.
  2. Experience in reading site plans.
  3. Experience in reviewing residential site plans for setback requirements.
  4. Knowledge of zoning classifications and setback requirements.
  5. Experience in dealing directly with the public in a very fast-paced environment.
  6. Experience in reading architectural plans.

Salary : $48,339 - $79,186
