We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our surgical department at our locally owned and operated specialty practice. This role is critical to ensuring seamless coordination between our surgeons, referral coordinators, and clients. Position Overview
The successful candidates will support our board-certified surgeons by managing patient records, assisting with patient handling, facility cleanliness, client communication. This position also involves collaboration with our OrthoMed & Rehab department as well as medical and administrative team members.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in surgical consultations and rechecks, including, greeting clients, entering and reviewing patient histories, scribing notes, and preparing estimates
- Handle and restrain patients using low-stress, fear-free techniques
- Coordinate with referral coordinators to gather and review medical records and imaging
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EzyVet)
- Facilitate and perform radiographic imaging as needed
- Manage client communications regarding postoperative care, prescriptions, and case follow-ups when required
- Ensure exam rooms are clean, organized, and fully stocked
- Prescription fulfillment in collaboration with the surgical team
- Other clinical duties as assigned
Required Qualifications/Experience
- Prior experience in a veterinary setting in a support role
- Demonstrated compassion and empathy toward patients and pet owners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational capabilities
- Ability to follow direction and work independently with minimal supervision
- Team-oriented mindset with flexibility and a positive attitude
- Physical capability to lift up to 30 lbs and remain on feet for extended periods
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with veterinary medical software systems
- Understanding of referral coordination and specialty care environments
- Basic understanding of common orthopedic conditions
- Medical Clerk License
