What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Technician position at Animal House at Live Oak Kennels?
The Animal House at Live Oak Kennel in Savannah is looking for both a part-time kennel technician and a full-time kennel technician who want to work in a team-centric environment centered around pet care. If you are willing to contribute a positive attitude and good work ethic to our group, then this spot could be yours! At our facility, quality care and attention are an absolute must when dealing with clients and their pets. Applicants should either know or be willing to learn all aspects of daily animal care. We work both indoors and outdoors, and applicants should be comfortable walking, kneeling and doing physical work, in addition to chatting with clients in person, talking on the phone or communicating online via email, social media, etc.
Applicants must have open availability to be considered for the full-time position. It will primarily cover weekdays but also some weekends. Please do not apply if your availability does not afford you flexibility in scheduling. The part-time position is primarily for weekends. Please make sure that your availability allows you to work during this time if you apply. We are flexible schedulers who can accommodate reasonable time off requests with sufficient notice. Additionally, all applicants must be able to provide their own transportation.
All interested should meet the following criteria:
- Must be comfortable around animals regardless of size, species or breed, particularly dogs
- Should be able to comfortably lift 30 lbs. to chest level
- Must be punctual and willing to work hard to provide excellent care
- A strong sense of cleanliness and attention to detail
- A clear understanding of working within a team to accomplish daily objectives
- No specific education is required, but those with relevant volunteer experience, prior kennel or veterinary experience, or animal care-related certifications will be given priority
- Availability - open for full-time position; weekends for part-time position
- Comfortable working with Windows-based computer booking and management software
Experience is not required but is recommended. Hourly wage starts at $13.00/hour without prior direct experience, but that wage can jump up to $17/hour with commensurate relevant pet care work or volunteer experience.
We should stress that while this work has its own rewards, we do not spend all day rolling on the floor with puppies and kitties. As with any job it can be stressful, and balancing the responsibilities and needs of many different pets across different circumstances and owners is not necessarily an equivalent situation with caring for your personal pet. We are looking for people who want to make sure that people's pets are kept comfortable, safe and happy, and to ensure owners' piece of mind while away. Adhering to a strict schedule across all kennel care disciplines including feeding, medicating, bathing, cleaning and exercising is the standard at our facility. If you are someone who likes animals and is looking to transition that passion into a gratifying job, then we look forward to speaking with you soon!
