Dog Groomer/Kennel Technician
FUNCTION: Assists with the care and well-being of animals stationed at kennels and provides grooming services for owner dogs and cats. Ensures that all support and service is conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the ONE BRAYS Leadership Credo.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides a high level of general care to all kennel dogs.
2. Cleans kennel including cages and dog runs, filling food and water dishes and exercising animals and ensure kennel area is clean and well maintained.
3. Takes reservations for boarding and other services offered.
4. Provides daily care and ensures general well-being of Brays Island Plantation dogs and owner-boarded dogs/animals.
5. Bathes, brushes, clips, trims and provides other groom services for dogs and cats in consultation with owner’s request and grooming needs.
6. Ensures equipment is clean and sanitized to prevent the spread of disease.
7. Monitors and records animal’s history, weight, food intake, diet, behavior and other symptoms for each animal at the kennels and ensures all records are up-to-date.
8. Provides routine care to animals to include dispensing and giving medication, inoculations, cleaning teeth, etc.
9. Checks for any ear or skin infections and provides record keeping information to Veterinary Technician.
10. Provides reports to and keeps Director of Wildlife Management & Dog Trainer informed of status of kennel animals.
11. Communicates with owners regarding the care and well-being of kennel animals.
12. Assists with interior and exterior maintenance of kennels to include owners lounge, vet room, supply room, grounds, etc. and ensures areas are clean and in good condition.
13. Assists with inventory; provides supply list.
14. Foster a “One Brays” culture that ensures alignment to values, engagement, owner-eccentricity, and resource sharing.
15. Provides exceptional customer service to Owners, Guests and Internal and External partners.
16. Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends and holidays as necessary.
2. Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
3. Must also be able to use a pen or pencil to write.
4. Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
5. Position involves walking, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 75 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must be able to transport oneself around the plantation. Must be able to drive a car, and possess a valid driver's license.
6. Must be physically and intellectually capable of operating a computer, facsimile machine, telephone and various other routine business items
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Working environment is both indoors and outdoors. Required to perform job in all types of weather conditions. Work day will be divided in varying percentages from well-lighted, temperature-controlled work area to exposure of all types of weather elements.
2. The employee will be in the vicinity of site-specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites. Proper footwear, headgear, and maintenance attire should be worn for protection.
3. Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns
4. Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment, which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent of education and experience. Certification from licensed grooming school preferred.
Skills: Highly effective interpersonal skills to include patience and sensitivity, problem solving abilities and advanced communication skills.
Experience/Knowledge: Minimum of 3 years as a licensed groomer preferred. Kennel boarding experience preferred.
Personality: Must be able to effectively interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented with good reasoning skills.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
