Animal Emergency & Specialty Center (AESC) Chattanooga is looking for a passionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician to join our ICU department on our overnight shift. Youโ€™ll be part of a fast-paced, supportive, and highly skilled team delivering top-tier care to emergency and critical patients.

This position is ideal for someone with prior experience in veterinary medicine, especially in emergency or critical care, but weโ€™re also open to candidates who are confident in essential skills like venipuncture, catheter placement, and basic anesthesia protocols.

  • Position Title: ICU Veterinary Assistant or Technician โ€“ Overnight
  • Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Shift: Friday โ€“ Sunday, 7 PM โ€“ 7 AM
  • Experience Level: 6 months preferred, but will consider confident, fast-learning candidates with strong foundational skills.

๐Ÿฉบ Key Responsibilities

  • Assist ICU Technicians with patient care including restraint, monitoring, treatment, and hygiene
  • Support veterinarians during emergency cases and ICU procedures
  • Perform or assist in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and anesthesia monitoring (depending on skill level)
  • Record accurate medical notes using veterinary software (e.g., Pulse/E-Vet)
  • Administer medications and fill prescriptions (non-controlled) as directed
  • Communicate effectively with clients and the medical team
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of ICU and treatment areas
  • Work with urgency, empathy, and attention to detail during overnight hours

โœ… Requirements

  • 6 months of experience in a veterinary setting preferred
  • Basic understanding of veterinary care, pharmacology, and common medical terminology
  • Comfortable handling dogs and cats in various states of health and temperament
  • Strong desire to learn and grow within emergency medicine
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with veterinary software systems
  • Must be able to work overnight shifts (Friday through Sunday)
