Schedule


The working schedule for this position is Saturday - Wednesday, 9AM -5:30PM with Thursday and Friday off. Working our may vary depending on clinic and community event needs.

ACC is one of the nation’s largest open-admission animal shelters, whose mission is to End Animal Homelessness in NYC. We touch the lives of nearly 20,000 animals each year. ACC is more than an animal shelter; we are a resource to the community, always seeking ways to keep the human-animal bond intact. With a 90% placement rate, our progressive, life-saving initiatives contribute to the successful placement of our animals. 






We strive to find loving homes for homeless and abandoned cats, dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits, both by adopting animals directly to the public and by partnering with more than 200 dedicated animal placement organizations (our New Hope partners). We also help keep NYC communities safe and rescue animals in need, responding to emergencies that involve animals as well as keeping our doors open 24/7 for people and animals in need.






Summary


Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) is seeking a dynamic, compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented individual to join our team in support of our mission to keep pets together with their human families by providing access to necessary resources. Reporting to our Senior Manager, Community Resources, the Community Pets Coordinator will be an integral member of the Community Pets team. The Coordinator will support the team in executing vaccine clinics, spay/neuter clinics, pet food pantries, and other programming by providing strong administrative, logistical, and customer service support. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to help both people and animals in need.


Required Qualifications:                                    



  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in customer service, non-profit work, community outreach, social work, advocacy, or counseling highly preffered.

  • Knowledge about dogs and cats and comfort being around all kinds of dogs and cats required.

  • Valid and current driver's license and ability to comfortably drive an ACC cargo van in the boroughs of NYC.

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Airtable, with the ability to learn new databases and software.

  • Comfortable calling and speaking on the phone with clients, program sites, and other organizations. 

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Essential Job Functions:



  • Administrative Support: Manage program email inboxes, maintain client data, create and update flyers, and maintain lists of partner organizations and community resources.

  • Customer Service and Outreach: Engage with clients about ACC's mission and services, assist with animals at events, and support transport of supplies.

  • Event and Resource Management: Participate in vaccine clinics, spay/neuter events, and food pantries, and track and maintain supplies for Community Pets programming.






Other Responsibilities:


Administrative



  • Review and flag incoming service requests for the team to prioritize, ensuring urgent needs are escalated promptly.

  • Monitor program email inboxes and reply to client inquiries in a timely and effective manner.

  • Input client data into ACC databases following community vaccine clinics and spay/neuter events.

  • Perform data entry into ACC databases for various surrender prevention cases.

  • Create, update, and manage an array of pet-related informational flyers for use throughout the organization.

  • Maintain and update an existing list of human food pantries that provide pet resources.

  • Maintain and update an existing list of human services and pet support organizations for referrals and partnerships.

  • Support the team in researching potential clinic sites in underserved neighborhoods as directed.

  • Assist in scheduling client pickups, appointments, and other logistics.


Customer Service Outreach



  • Effectively communicate ACC's mission and the Community Pets Program's services to internal and external parties.

  • Participate in Community Pets Vaccine Clinics, Spay/Neuter events, Pet Food Pantries, and other events as needed.

  • Assist with handling animals at events, as needed.

  • Follow up with clients receiving various services, as needed.

  • Transport or arrange transport of food between ACC and clients as needed.

  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with a diverse clientele in a non-judgmental and supportive manner by phone, text, and email.

  • Explain surrender prevention services to clients in a non-judgmental and supportive fashion.


Other



  • Accurately track and maintain supplies for all Community Pets programming.

  • Transport various supplies between centers.

  • Support other Community Resources staff as needed.

  • Fear Free certification within 30 days of hire.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.






Preferred Qualifications:                                    



  • College degree or some college preferred. 

  • Ability to work a varying schedule that includes weekend days, and to work successfully both in the field and in an office.

  • Ability to travel to and work in all five boroughs of NYC for community events.

  • Ability to remain calm, assertive, and professional in stressful situations.

  • Detail-oriented multi-tasker with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • An outgoing "people person" who communicates in a supportive, non-judgmental manner with people of varying backgrounds, income levels, cultures, and struggles.

  • A self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a team, with a high level of integrity, professionalism, and punctuality.

  • Experience and comfort being around animals, including hands-on experience with dogs and cats, preferred.

  • Bilingual or working proficiency in Spanish, strongly preferred.






Work Environment


At ACC it's all hands-on deck. We work together as a team, which means you may be asked to help with tasks that involve working outside in all sorts of weather. As a busy animal shelter in one of the biggest cities in the world it can get noisy inside. Employees should have the ability to remain calm yet professional in stressful situations involving animals and/or members of the public. ACC houses hundreds of animals in its facilities at any given time and with that comes fur, odors and other airborne particles in abundance.  


  


ACC offers many low-cost services to pets and people in need. This includes compassionate end-of-life services for people who cannot afford to go to a private veterinary office but still want to provide a professional and peaceful transition for their beloved pet.  






The Community Pets Coordinator will be based out of our Queens Animal Care Center and must be able to travel to all Care Centers and throughout NYC. Community events take place at various locations around the five boroughs.
