Kennel Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional animal husbandry by cleaning kennels, cages, and common areas to ensure a hygienic environment.
• Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both pets and staff.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians, following proper aseptic techniques.
• Support veterinary technicians and veterinarians with laboratory sample collection, basic diagnostics, and specimen handling.
• Handle animals with care during intake, discharge, or transfer, demonstrating proficiency in dog handling and understanding of animal physiology.
• Maintain detailed records of medication administration, treatments, and animal behavior observations in compliance with clinic protocols.
• Support front desk duties such as scheduling appointments or managing patient flow when needed to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Qualifications

• Previous kennel experience or animal care background is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and pet care essentials.
• Experience working in veterinary clinics or with veterinary technicians is advantageous.
• Familiarity with veterinary terminology, laboratory procedures, and aseptic techniques.
• Ability to handle animals safely using restraint techniques suitable for different species including dogs and cats; equine experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and basic medical procedures such as catheterization or medication administration.
• Excellent animal handling skills combined with a compassionate attitude toward pets and their owners.
