Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role in Fort Lauderdale, FL, for a Radiation Therapist. The Radiation Therapist coordinates, plans, and administers high quality and comprehensive disease appropriate radiotherapy to oncology patients by utilizing equipment, computers, and established techniques to ensure a positive patient experience. Demonstrating radiation safety standards with patients and staff members is essential. The Radiation Therapist will work directly with the Medical Director, Senior Manager, RT Supervisor, Doctors, and COO to ensure that the Ft. Lauderdale hospital runs to its top performance efficiency to ensure optimal patient care and client service at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associates degree or bachelor’s degree
- Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) preferred
- Previous On-The-Job Training required or Graduate of Accredited Radiation Therapy School
- ARRT Registered Technologist preferred though not required
- Computer literate to include experience with Record and Verify Applications, Treatment Delivery Applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; good organizational skills; confidentiality; excellent interpersonal skills; positive interaction in dealing with Clients
- Familiarity with Radiation and its application within medical or veterinary treatment settings.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate approach when working with animal patients and their owners.
Responsibilities
- The Radiation Therapist must be able to operate all types of radiation therapy machines and CT simulator technology utilizing the latest treatment techniques including 3D Conformal, IMRT, SRS/SBRT, IGRT, and VMAT.
- Prepare or construct equipment such as immobilization, treatment, or protection devices.
- Position Patients for simulation and treatment with accuracy.
- Administers prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards.
- Properly document simulations, treatments, and patient care activities.
- Assists others in department with matters of proper documentation
- Check radiation therapy and simulation equipment to ensure proper operation following established quality assurance and warm-up procedures.
- Reports machine and equipment problems following the established procedure.
- Review prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification before initiating treatment.
- Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
- Observe and reassure patients during treatment and report unusual reactions to Radiation Oncologist.
- Educate, prepare, and reassure clients by answering questions and explaining Radiation Oncologist’s recommendations regarding treatment reactions or post-treatment care.
- Efficiently coordinates and plans patient schedule(s) to optimize resources
- Interacts with both internal and external customers professionally
- Train or supervise other RT nurses to maximize knowledge.
- Maintain a productive relationship with the Physicist and Service Technicians.
- Follow established practice patterns to ensure the timely readiness of treatment plans, including QA for initiating patient treatment and follow-up.

Acts as a positive role model in complying with all safety regulation governed by such agencies as OSHA and Florida Radiation Safety Board. Demonstrates knowledge about utilization of proper equipment and body mechanics (lifting) consistently applies this knowledge and shares it with staff members. Promotes and emphasizes strong teamwork.
Compensation
Dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Full time position that will require a 30-40 hour work week, Monday-Friday. Weekly schedule will depend upon the needs of the Radiation Therapy Department.
