Position Summary
The Associate Estimator supports the Construction Division by assisting with quantity takeoffs, pricing coordination, bid document review, and estimate package compilation for design-build and commercial bid-build work. This role is intended to improve preconstruction capacity, increase estimating throughput, and support a more consistent transition from estimating to project execution.
The Associate Estimator plays a key support role in the front end of the construction process by helping organize project information, collect pricing, prepare estimate components, and maintain the documentation needed for accurate and timely proposals. This position is ideal for an individual who is detail-oriented, organized, and interested in developing into a full estimating or project management role over time.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Takeoff Support
- Perform quantity takeoffs from construction plans, details, specifications, and field information
- Assist with scope quantity development for landscape, irrigation, hardscape, drainage, site furnishings, and related construction items
- Organize takeoff worksheets and maintain supporting estimate documentation
- Review project documents and identify missing information, scope conflicts, and areas requiring clarification
Pricing & Bid Support
- Solicit, receive, and organize vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Assist with material, equipment, and subcontractor cost comparisons
- Compile estimate backup for internal review and pricing validation
- Support the preparation of estimate summaries, inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions
- Help ensure bid packages are complete, organized, and submitted on time
Preconstruction Coordination
- Support preconstruction efforts by organizing project documents, addenda, and revisions
- Assist in maintaining bid calendars, due dates, and pricing deadlines
- Coordinate with project management and procurement to improve continuity between estimating and project execution
- Help prepare project information for clean handoff after award
Process & Performance Support
- Maintain estimate files, pricing records, and scope support documents
- Assist with estimate-to-actual job cost comparisons on completed work
- Help maintain production rates, pricing references, and estimating templates
- Support continuous improvement of preconstruction workflow and estimating accuracy
Position Objectives
- Improve estimating capacity and turnaround time
- Increase accuracy and completeness of takeoffs and estimate packages
- Reduce missed scope and pricing gaps
- Improve preconstruction organization and handoff quality
- Support the Construction Division’s profitability and process consistency
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in construction, estimating support, project coordination, purchasing, or related field operations preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, details, and specifications
- Strong math, quantity takeoff, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer/document management
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license preferred
Preferred Experience
- Experience in landscape construction, civil/site work, irrigation, hardscape, or related commercial construction scopes
- Exposure to subcontractor and vendor pricing processes
- Familiarity with job costing, estimating templates, or preconstruction workflows
- Experience supporting project managers, estimators, or procurement teams
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work well with project managers, field leaders, vendors, and subcontractors
- Ability to identify discrepancies or incomplete information in project documents
- Willingness to learn estimating methods, cost structure, and production assumptions
- Ability to support a deadline-driven environment with accuracy and professionalism
Physical / Work Requirements
- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits as needed
- Ability to sit, stand, walk job sites, and review field conditions when necessary
- Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry plans, project files, and related materials as needed

Salary : $55,000 - $65,000
