Job Overview:
The Food Handler/Kitchen Assistant supports daily kitchen operations by performing skilled food preparation, cooking, portioning, and sanitation tasks. Working under the close supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, this role ensures that meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established recipes and quality standards. The Food Handler/Kitchen Assistant also assists with restocking supplies, serving meals, and maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen environment. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, large-scale food service setting.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare ingredients and assist in cooking meals using established recipes to ensure high-quality taste, presentation, and consistency.
- Portion food properly when loading food carts and steam tables for service.
- Assist in checking incoming food orders for correct pricing, weight, quality, and accuracy.'
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, including stoves, cookers, kettles, pots, pans, dishes, refrigerators, mixers, tables, and utensils, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards.
- Serve food to clients or County staff as directed.
- Restock food and non-food supplies and assist with organizing storage areas.
- Participate in client food satisfaction surveys as needed.
- Prepare simple written reports and complete required forms.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Supervisor.
Qualification:
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, including walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing, and carrying items.
- Regularly exert 20–50 lbs of force and occasionally exert 50–100 lbs of force when moving or lifting items.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in food preparation, food handling, storage, and kitchen sanitation—preferably in a large-scale food service facility.
- Must have and maintain a current Florida Food Handler Certification (or equivalent).
- Certification must be submitted within 3 business days of the County's request for services.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
