Brief Description
Use knowledge of welding techniques and processes, metallurgical and material types, material cutting
processes (oxy/acetylene and plasma), weld symbols, and engineering blueprints to accomplish
production goals. The Fitter will lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to
specifications using typical or common fabrication tools (tape measure, tri-square, etc.) and welds.
- Senior level concept of utilizing blueprints to fit up and fabricate metal components and equipment
- Tack weld, or weld components and assemblies using GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW welding
- Perform first order inspection to ensure accuracy and dimensions meeting quality standards
- Use of jib and overhead cranes to move assembled parts
- Demonstrate safe working practices and standards
- Coordinate helpers
- Train all levels of fitter
- Assist manager with budget and time management

- High school diploma/GED
- 5 years of experience in welding, metal fabrication, and fitting
- Good mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, geometry, trigonometry);
- Knowledge of Oxy fuel, hand plasma cutting, & MIG/TIG/stick/fluxcore/pulse arc/tack welding
- Ability to operate saw, cold saw, shear, punch press, break press, and small roller
- Good knowledge and use of common and typical fabrication tools
- Good communication and organizational skills with a willingness to work with others; ability to interact
- Knowledge of production and manufacturing in a sheet metal facility
- Demonstrate qualities that support a safe working environment
- Majority of work is performed in a warehouse and manufacturing shop environment; exposed to
areas, noise level is usually moderate to high
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; must have ability to use close vision, peripheral
hands and arms to reach for objects, carry, climb, balance, speak, and hear
