What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Administrator position at Anchor Talent & Consulting?
Anchor Talent has partnered with a fast-moving, global technology consulting firm based in downtown Austin. They're a small, sharp team doing serious work and right now, they need someone who can anchor their IT operations locally while the organization continues to scale.
This isn't a role for someone who wants a predictable queue of tickets and a defined lane. It's for someone who sees an unstable network connection as a puzzle, gets genuinely curious about automation possibilities, and can earn the trust of a team that works across time zones and industries. The right person here will grow with the company and leave their fingerprints on how IT functions for years to come.
The Systems Administrator will be the primary IT presence for the Austin office but support global operations. You'll be actively involved in automation initiatives, helping reduce manual IT overhead so the team can focus on higher-value work. As the company grows and evolves, so will this role.

- Configure and support WireGuard VPN for in-office and remote users

- Manage the IT support queue (currently 10–20 tickets per week), resolving access requests, software issues, and general troubleshooting
- Support cloud infrastructure tooling including Terraform and GitHub
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive IT tasks and help reduce manual ticket volume
- Evaluate and implement AI-assisted tooling where it adds real operational value
- Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps to support knowledge continuity

- Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VPN configuration, Wi-Fi troubleshooting
- Hardware provisioning: laptop setup, imaging, and documentation
- Access management: experience with tools like Jump Cloud or similar IAM platforms
- Curiosity and adaptability: you thrive when the problem isn't in the manual
- Familiarity with UniFi/Ubiquiti networking equipment
- Exposure to Terraform, GitHub, or cloud infrastructure tooling
- Experience with Wire Guard or other VPN solutions
- Interest in AI/automation tools and how they apply to IT operations
