Housing Services Specialist (Bilingual)

Overview
The Housing Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting individuals and families in securing and maintaining stable housing. This position involves working closely with clients to navigate housing options, provide resources, and facilitate communication between tenants and landlords. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of housing regulations, crisis management skills, and a commitment to fostering positive relationships within the community.

Duties

• Assist clients in understanding their housing options, including Section 8 and other assistance programs.
• Facilitate communication between tenants and landlords to resolve issues and ensure compliance with landlord-tenant law.
• Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop personalized housing plans.
• Provide crisis intervention and management support to clients facing housing instability or emergencies.
• Maintain accurate records of client interactions, housing applications, and case notes using property management software.
• Educate clients on Fair Housing regulations and their rights as tenants.
• Collaborate with social workers and other professionals to provide comprehensive support services, including addiction counseling when necessary.
• Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in their housing journey.
• Stay informed about local housing policies, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) programs, and community resources.

Skills

• Knowledge of landlord-tenant law and Fair Housing regulations is essential.
• Experience in property management or social work is highly desirable.
• Strong negotiation skills to advocate for clients’ needs effectively.
• Proficiency in crisis intervention techniques to assist clients in high-stress situations.
• Familiarity with addiction counseling principles is a plus.
• Ability to utilize software tools for case management purposes.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with diverse populations effectively.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for maintaining accurate records.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
