The Housing Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting individuals and families in securing and maintaining stable housing. Duties
- Assist clients in understanding their housing options, including Section 8 and other assistance programs.
- Facilitate communication between tenants and landlords to resolve issues and ensure compliance with landlord-tenant law.
- Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop personalized housing plans.
- Provide crisis intervention and management support to clients facing housing instability or emergencies.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, housing applications, and case notes using property management software.
- Educate clients on Fair Housing regulations and their rights as tenants.
- Collaborate with social workers and other professionals to provide comprehensive support services, including addiction counseling when necessary.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in their housing journey.
- Stay informed about local housing policies, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) programs, and community resources.
Skills
- Knowledge of landlord-tenant law and Fair Housing regulations is essential.
- Experience in property management or social work is highly desirable.
- Strong negotiation skills to advocate for clients’ needs effectively.
- Proficiency in crisis intervention techniques to assist clients in high-stress situations.
