Role Description The Shell Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based in Tampa, FL, responsible for overseeing day-to-day field operations for residential shell construction projects. This role coordinates and supervises subcontractors and crews, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, on schedule, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality standards. The Shell Superintendent manages site logistics, conducts daily walk-throughs and inspections, tracks progress, and promptly addresses issues related to safety, quality, and productivity. The role includes interpreting construction drawings, verifying material quantities, coordinating deliveries, and maintaining jobsite documentation such as daily reports, photos, and logs. The Shell Superintendent also collaborates closely with project managers, trade partners, inspectors, and clients’ representatives to support clear communication, effective problem-solving, and successful project outcomes.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience supervising shell construction (foundations, block, framing, structural systems) for residential projects, with strong blueprint reading and construction document interpretation skills.
- Proficiency in site planning and coordination, including scheduling trades, sequencing work, managing inspections, and monitoring progress against project timelines and milestones.
- Strong commitment to safety, including knowledge of construction safety standards, ability to lead daily safety meetings, and consistent enforcement of jobsite safety protocols.
- Effective leadership and communication skills, with the ability to direct field teams, collaborate with project managers and trade partners, and provide clear updates and feedback.
- Solid problem-solving and decision-making abilities, including resolving field conflicts, addressing quality concerns, and adapting to changing site conditions.
- Basic to intermediate computer and technology skills, including use of smartphones/tablets for field reporting, project management or scheduling tools, email, and digital photo documentation.
- Knowledge of Florida building codes, inspection processes, and local construction practices related to shell construction.
- Ability to work on-site daily in varying weather conditions, including standing, walking, and performing light physical tasks throughout the workday.
