Job Summary
Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County is seeking seasonal employees to join our team as Mosquito Control Technicians from May 4th, 2026, to October 31st, 2026. The purpose of this position is to support our mosquito control operations and respond to service requests from the citizens of St. Johns County. Mosquito Control Technicians operate spraying equipment, for adult and larval mosquitoes. They perform field inspections to identify mosquito problems and effectively control applications of appropriate treatment. Employees work a full-time schedule from 6:30am to 2:30pm. Paid training is provided.
Duties
- Respond to larviciding/adulticiding service requests as needed.
- Assists in the implementation of source reduction efforts (emptying containers, pick up used tires, educating the public, etc.).
- Operates spray equipment for adulticiding and/or larviciding according to the specific requirements of the treatment plan and type of equipment following the District’s policy and procedures
- Identify and report any calibration issues with spray equipment to the Supervisor promptly.
- Operate light duty off-road equipment, such as ATV’s in the performance of certain spraying assignments.
- Applies chemicals according to the exact labeling specifications.
- Perform re-checks on areas treated and evaluate efficacy of control practices.
- Conduct walk around pre-trip vehicle inspections and ensure all necessary supplies and materials are present to complete trip.
- Complete daily work and time information into handheld database.
- Perform a variety of maintenance duties including mowing and trimming, maintaining trails, and performing construction/deconstruction of District property.
- Communicate with the public in a professional and courteous manner and refer all inquiries outside of area of expertise back to the appropriate person at the District.
- Follow all District safety policies and procedures and comply with all local, state and federal regulations at all times.
Requirements
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and operate vehicles spraying equipment and tools.
- Possess a current and valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Satisfactory criminal background check results, to be conducted after employment offer.
- Must have basic computer skills and be able to learn to operate an I-phone to perform field data entry.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English and be able to understand chemical label instructions.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime and weekends as required in preparation and response to extreme weather events such as storms, hurricanes, and heavy rain.
