Pay: $18.00–$21.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus a 10% evening shift differential

Position Overview

Analyze Pathology is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant I to join our growing anatomic pathology laboratory.

This position supports the daily processing and movement of patient specimens through the laboratory. The work is structured, hands-on, and often repetitive, making this an excellent fit for someone who enjoys staying organized, following established processes, and taking pride in getting the details right every time.

Previous professional laboratory experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate strong reliability, attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to work independently once properly trained.

Because this is an evening position with increasing independence as the shift progresses, consistent attendance and dependability are essential.

Primary Responsibilities

• Accession patient specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with a high degree of accuracy
• Verify patient, specimen, and order information and identify discrepancies before processing
• Sort, organize, and route specimens according to testing requirements and laboratory workflow
• Centrifuge and prepare specimens according to established procedures
• Assist with preparation of ThinPrep cytology specimens following training and demonstrated competency
• Assist with cell block preparation following training
• Package and prepare specimens for send-out testing
• Maintain accurate specimen tracking and documentation throughout the laboratory process
• Perform required quality-control checks
• Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety requirements, and specimen-handling protocols
• Recognize discrepancies, unusual situations, or circumstances requiring escalation rather than making assumptions
• Maintain an organized and clean work area
• Work efficiently while maintaining accuracy during periods of high specimen volume
• Work independently on assigned responsibilities after successful completion of training and competency assessment
• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and supervisors regarding workflow, discrepancies, and outstanding tasks
• Perform additional laboratory-support duties as assigned

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Previous laboratory, healthcare, specimen-processing, medical-office, quality-control, manufacturing, production, or other detail-oriented experience is preferred but not required
• Experience with data entry, documentation, specimen handling, or repetitive precision work is a plus
• Basic computer proficiency required
• Ability to learn and consistently follow detailed laboratory procedures is required

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 5:00 PM–1:00 AM

This is a permanent evening-shift position. Candidates must be able to reliably work the full scheduled shift.

Compensation

$18.00–$21.00 per hour, based on relevant experience and qualifications.

Employees working this schedule receive an additional 10% evening shift differential, bringing the effective hourly rate to approximately $19.80–$23.10 per hour, depending on base rate.
