Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for nursing staff across various specialties, including medical-surgical, critical care, emergency medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, and outpatient settings.
- Conduct hands-on clinical education sessions on topics such as Epic electronic health record (EHR) systems, Cerner documentation standards, ICD-10 coding, medication administration, IV infusion techniques, aseptic technique, and infection control protocols.
- Evaluate staff competency through direct observation, skills assessments, and performance reviews; provide constructive feedback to support professional growth.
- Serve as a resource for complex clinical cases involving trauma medicine at Level I and Level II trauma centers or ICU settings; assist with case management and discharge planning processes.
- Facilitate ongoing education on specialized procedures including botulinum toxin treatments, catheterization (including Foley and central lines), suturing techniques, ostomy care, gastrostomy tube feeding, ventilator management, and laboratory specimen collection.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA privacy laws, NCQA standards for quality assurance, and hospital policies; maintain accurate documentation of training activities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote best practices in patient assessment, pain management—including acute pain management—and long-term care strategies such as memory care and dementia support.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of POINT CLICK CARE for documentation and patient record management.
- Strong clinical background with experience in diverse settings such as hospital medicine, outpatient clinics, home care, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospice & palliative medicine, and post-acute care environments.
- Proficiency in advanced nursing procedures including IV insertion/venipuncture/venous access device care; sterile processing; tube feeding; airway management; CPR/BLS certification; and laboratory testing procedures.
- Familiarity with caring for Geriatric patients
- Exceptional communication skills to educate staff on medical terminology, physiology knowledge, and preventing re-hospitalization on the residents
- Ability to assess patient needs through physical examinations and vital signs monitoring; adept at teaching aseptic technique and infection control measures to ensure patient safety.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays in various settings including memory care or behavioral health environments.
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate training schedules while maintaining compliance with standards and other regulatory requirements.
