Required Qualifications
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years' Commercial Drafting experience.
- Must possess an associate's degree in engineering Drafting or a bachelor's degree.
- Must have the knowledge of healthcare design and the understanding of fire codes, life safety codes, building codes, barrier free design, systems, compose cleaning and maintenance concepts, ergonomics and safety criteria.
- Must have the ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications. Drafting assignments require comprehension of the detailed characteristics of item being designed and association with accepted design practices.
- Must be skilled in free form drawing and drawing to scale when on a job site measuring for a project.
- Preferred certifications such as, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Des Expertise with recommendations for the selection, specification, procurement, placement of furnishings.
- Preferred certifications in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
- 3 years of AutoCAD, 3 years of Revit, and 1 year of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) are required.
- Microsoft Project and Microsoft Teams are beneficial but not required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with a variety of contractors, management officials, vendors, Contracting Officers at Long Beach staff and meet stated deadlines.
- Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- Qualified candidates shall have received an annual seasonal influenza vaccination, or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons, prior to start of work.

- Assist the Contracted Architect and VA Architect to create and execute appropriate drafting services for varied spaces throughout the campus, including providing plans, reflected ceiling plans, and elevations in AutoCAD, Revit and other visual software including ZLink.
- Perform administrative or professional work involving supporting documentation management, administration and supporting services related to the operation and safety of Federal facilities.
- Prepare detailed AutoCAD and Revit designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes and any visual aids for proposed design presentations. This involves analyzing architectural drawings and developing AutoCAD and Revit Furniture, Fixture and Equipment (FFandE) plan layers, which have provided systems and components of building codes, major equipment, materials, placeholder furnishings and traffic patterns.
- Interpret and review provided architectural plans for concurrence to the VA's Technical Information Library (TIL), standards and specifications as used for the basis of current construction and procurement package development.
- Maintains in good order the Drawing Room, which includes drawings, plans, project binders relating to various design and construction projects.
- Assist in the management and updates of all drawing documentation maintained in AutoCAD, Revit format and ZLink.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned; such as; administering day-in-the-life scenarios, move plans, creating schedules and attending project meetings.
- Review and identify existing drawings for incomplete or inaccurate information and discussing with the contracted Architect, bringing any concerns to the attention of the Chief of Projects and Construction Management to discuss resolution and how best to document this in the drawing files.
- When a move or minor construction has been completed, the Drafter is responsible for documenting this change and coordinating with Interior Design staff and contracted movers to properly document the completed space in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Follow basic working knowledge of Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standard (ABAAS), VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA Technical Information Library (TIL), International Code Council (ICC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), International Fire Code (IFC), Life Safety.
- Performs other duties as needed.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment.
