What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Controls Engineer position at Amsted Rail Company?
Amsted Rail, a division of Amsted Industries, a private, employee-owned multi-billion revenue corporation with a large global presence, has an immediate opening for a Senior Controls Engineer at its Granite City, IL location.
Onsite support of Operations with automated control systems such as Allen Bradly PLCs, Panelviews, Vacon AC Drives, ABB Robotics, and Wonderware MES. Support will include electrical and mechanical troubleshooting of existing systems. This role will also be responsible for machine design improvements, software development, and electrical circuit design. This opportunity will include field work as well as office setting design work.
Key Roles / Responsibilities
- Ability to work with Software and Hardware of Allen Bradley PLC systems such as SLC-5/05, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix processors. Develop new programs and continuously improve existing using company standards.
- Ability to work with IRC5 and S4C ABB Robotic systems, new control programming and continuous improvement of existing.
- Ability to work with Vacon AC Drives, Allen Bradley Powerflex 400, 750 and 755 AC Drives, as well as forward / reversing two speed starters and contactors.
- Ability to develop and maintain HMI systems such as Allen Bradley Panelviews and Wonderware MES.
- Knowledge of various communication protocols such as Ethernet I/P, Remote IO, and Modbus TCP/IP.
- Provide continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and equipment.
- Assures maximum reliability of equipment.
- Provides engineering support to operations in troubleshooting, rebuilding and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, and automated systems.
- Follow company design standards while integrating automation including PLC, Robotics, HMI and data collection systems.
- Creates and maintains documentation of processes and operating procedures.
Qualifications / Education
- Bachelor’s degree desired in Electrical Engineering / Controls Engineering or related technical degree
- 8 years of industry experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Successful project designs and implementations.
- Experience displaying hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Willing to work in a plant environment
- Able to work full time and flex hours when needed
Physical Requirements
Must have full range of body motion. Certain operations require repetitive bending, squatting, and full arm extension. Manual lifting, not exceeding fifty (50) pounds, may be required. Able to visit various manufacturing environments and wear all appropriate PPE.
