Additive Lab Operations Technician

Do you enjoy turning complex CAD into real, testable components—and making each build better than the last? In this role, you’ll be a go-to operator and problem-solver in Amsted Rail’s Petersburg Additive Manufacturing Hub, blending hands-on machine work with customer-facing DfAM guidance.

You will operate multiple additive platforms, produce prototypes/fixtures/tooling, and keep the lab safe, calibrated, and continuously improving. You’ll collaborate with internal customers to understand application needs, schedule and prioritize work with limited supervision, and leverage CMM and 3D scanning to verify results. When parts need post-processing, you’ll use machining know-how or coordinate outside vendors—and you’ll document everything in our paper and digital systems.

• Set up, change over, run, and disassemble AM equipment; drive process improvements across all additive workflows.
• Provide DfAM support to Additive Manufacturing Hub customers via email, calls, virtual sessions, and in-person meetings.
• Read 3D CAD, product and tooling schematics, and basic GD interpret machine prints accurately.
• Maintain and communicate a clear prototype schedule with minimal oversight.
• Apply measurement techniques including CMM and 3D laser scanning to confirm part quality.
• Partner across the organization—employees, customers, and suppliers—to share insights on current capabilities and future needs.
• Keep the lab safe and orderly with ongoing housekeeping, calibration, and preventive maintenance, following Amsted Rail Health & Safety guidance.
• Complete all required documentation and take on other tasks as assigned.

• Successfully pass a pre-employment drug & background screening
• Capacity to lift, push, and pull 10–50 lbs; able to stand and move throughout the department for the shift.
• Comfort wearing employer-provided PPE as required.
• Mechanical aptitude; prior industrial/manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous work in additive manufacturing and confidence working in a production setting.

• Pay: Competitive hourly rate based on experience, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.
• Schedule: Monday–Friday (8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.).
