RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Oversee the firm’s financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting and efficient management of billing, Trust accounting, and accounts payable/receivable.
• Supervise daily accounting activities including accounts receivable, accounts payable, client expenses, and time entry. Review bi-weekly payables register to monitor expenses and ensure accuracy.
• Work with attorneys and administrative staff to improve timekeeping and invoicing accuracy.
• Manage and mentor the accounting staff (full-time and contract employees), provide training and professional development opportunities.
• Assign billing related tasks and ensure deadlines are met with in-house and outsourced accounting staff.
• Streamline and supervise client billing and collections to improve cash flow.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and internal financial policies.
• Evaluate, develop, and implement accounting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and compliance within the accounting department.
• Responsible for month-end and year-end closing processes including reconciliations and journal entries.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy.
• Provide financial reports and insights to firm leadership to support strategic financial decision-making.
• Manage and maintain the firm’s fixed asset records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Treasury Management – Manage relationships with banks for account needs, negotiate rates and fees.
• Manage IOLTA accounts to ensure compliance with state bar regulations.
• Process and approve ACH/Wire transactions including verifying bank details and setting up recurring templates in the mobile banking platform.
• File annual Unclaimed Property with the Texas Comptroller.
• Collaborate with CPA to submit required documents and financials required for tax preparation.
• Examine federal and multi-state returns for completeness and accuracy.
• Prepare and file annual Harris County Property Rendition Tax.
• Track filing deadlines, extensions, and payments to avoid penalties and interest.
• Ensure supporting documents, work papers, and reconciliations align with financial records and regulatory requirements.
