We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Cell Engineer to join our team. The Principal Cell Engineer serves as the primary technical expert for lithium-ion battery cell development, specializing in LFP/LMFP cathode and graphite anode chemistries. This role is responsible for providing technical guidance, overseeing critical development tasks, and acting as the key technical interface with external partners and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in all aspects of Li-ion cell design, development, and testing, particularly for LFP/LMFP and graphite-based systems.
- Serve as the technical gatekeeper for cell development projects, reviewing designs, experimental plans, and results to ensure technical rigor and alignment with project goals.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for external partners (e.g., material suppliers, research institutions, customers), communicating technical requirements, progress, and challenges.
- Lead failure analysis investigations to identify root causes of cell performance issues and develop effective solutions.
- Oversee and interpret advanced characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) to understand cell behavior and material properties.
- Design and execute complex experiments to optimize cell design parameters and improve performance.
- Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and materials relevant to Li-ion battery cell development.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical training and support.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property (patents, trade secrets) related to cell technology.
Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field is strongly preferred; master's degree with extensive experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Li-ion battery cell technology, including electrochemistry, materials science, cell design, and manufacturing processes, with a focus on LFP/LMFP and graphite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and with external partners.
- Strong data analysis and ability to perform complicated tasks.
