Location(s): Mechanicsville, VA
(Hybrid: Onsite 1 day per week)
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Microsoft SQL Developer to support the modernization of a mission-critical enterprise transaction platform undergoing a partial rewrite using microservices and modular architecture. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and modernizing Microsoft SQL Server components within a high-availability Azure Virtual Machine (IaaS) environment. Working as part of an Agile/Scrum team, the developer will collaborate with architects, cloud engineers, application developers, and QA engineers to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing database solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and views.
- Perform SQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and execution plan analysis.
- Modernize legacy SQL code and database structures while maintaining compatibility with existing applications.
- Support development of new features for a modern microservices-based application architecture.
- Collaborate with .NET Core/C# developers to implement efficient data access patterns and API integrations.
- Design and improve database schemas to support scalable, modular applications.
- Support high-availability SQL Server environments using Always On Availability Groups.
- Develop database migration scripts and ETL processes using SSIS and Databricks.
- Ensure compliance with PCI security standards and data retention requirements.
- Deploy database changes through Azure DevOps and GitHub CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Document database designs, deployment procedures, and technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 7-10 years of Microsoft SQL Server development experience in enterprise environments.
- Advanced expertise in T-SQL development, including stored procedures, functions, views, and query optimization.
- Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning and indexing strategies.
- Experience administering and developing SQL Server in Azure Virtual Machine (IaaS) environments.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.
- Experience modernizing legacy SQL code and database schemas.
- Experience building ETL solutions using SSIS and Databricks.
- Experience collaborating with .NET Core/C# development teams.
- Experience deploying database changes using Azure DevOps and GitHub CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Strong understanding of database security, PCI compliance, and data governance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Experience working with microservices architectures.
- Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
- Experience supporting high-volume, high-transaction database environments.
- Experience modernizing SQL Server workloads hosted in cloud environments.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work schedule with one onsite day per week.
