Duties
- Record and categorize all financial transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or Quicken
- Perform bank reconciliations to ensure consistency between bank statements and internal records
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes efficiently and accurately
- Prepare journal entries, including debits & credits, to maintain the general ledger in compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Reconcile accounts on the balance sheet through detailed account analysis and general ledger reconciliation
- Assist with payroll processing and related tax filings to ensure timely and accurate payments
- Generate financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to support management decision-making
- Conduct month-end close procedures, including account reconciliation and review of financial data for accuracy
- Support budgeting activities by tracking expenses against forecasts and providing variance analysis
- Ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards for non-profit or public sector organizations when applicable
Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, debits & credits, and general ledger accounting
- Experience with governmental or non-profit accounting practices is a plus
- Knowledge of GAAP standards and technical accounting concepts to ensure compliance
- Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliation tasks accurately
- Familiarity with payroll processing, tax experience, and accounts payable/receivable management
- Excellent organizational skills including 10 key typing speed for data entry accuracy
- Strong analytical skills for account analysis and account reconciliation processes
- Effective communication skills for financial report writing and collaborating with team members
- Ability to adapt quickly to various financial software platforms like QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or Quicken
