Position Summary
The Field Technician III (NETA III) serves as a technical leader in the field and plays a key role in testing and commissioning activities for electrical power systems at customer sites. This role is responsible for performing advanced electrical testing, troubleshooting complex equipment issues, and overseeing field crews to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards.
Essential Functions
- Lead field testing and commissioning of electrical power systems at customer sites.
- Perform advanced testing of low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, relays, and cables.
- Conduct power transformer testing including Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, and related diagnostic testing.
- Perform advanced relay testing and calibration on electro-mechanical, microprocessor, and solid-state relays.
- Perform cable testing including Tan Delta, VLF, power factor, and DC hipot testing.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system drawings to troubleshoot complex system issues.
- Lead field crews and coordinate work assignments during testing and commissioning activities.
- Review and verify technical reports for accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to customers and internal teams.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with NETA, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and company safety standards.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior technicians and trainees.
- Support project planning activities including job walks and equipment inspections.
- Participate in emergency service response and scheduled on-call rotations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- NETA III Certification required or eligibility to sit for the NETA III exam.
- Minimum 5 years of experience performing electrical testing, commissioning, or maintenance of power systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading field crews and overseeing electrical testing projects.
- Strong understanding of industry standards including NETA, NEC, NFPA, and OSHA.
- Strong experience in testing electrical equipment such as switchgear, breakers, transformers, relays, and cables.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Must be able to safely perform work around electrical equipment and adhere to all company safety procedures.
- Must possess basic computer skills including email, internet use, and data entry.
- Must be able to travel locally and regionally with periodic overnight travel as required by project needs.
- Must be legally eligible to operate a motor vehicle with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
One or more of the following preferred:
- Associate degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), Electrical Technology, or similar program.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college.
- Relevant military training such as Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee programs.
- OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, or CPR/First Aid/AED certifications (training may be provided by AMP).
Employment Requirements
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment hair follicle drug screening and participate in periodic, unannounced random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy and customer requirements.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require current or future sponsorship.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.
- Must be willing and able to travel, including overnight travel, estimated at approximately 25% or more depending on project requirements.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including standing, walking, climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Additional Information:
Job: Full-Time
Location: Atlanta, GA
Travel: 25%
Compensation: Pay range for a Field Tech III ranges from $56 to $68 (depending on skillset, certifications, and experience) per hour and eligible for overtime. Daily meal and incidentals per diem available when traveling for overnight work.
