Position Summary
The Field Technician I (NETA I) supports the inspection, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical power systems at client sites. This position works under the direction of a Team Lead or senior technician and assists with testing electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, relays, and grounding systems while learning industry standards and safety procedures.
Essential Functions
- Assist senior technicians with the inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and start-up of electrical power systems at customer sites.
- Assist with testing of low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment, including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, relays, and cables.
- Support testing activities including instrument transformer testing, insulation resistance testing, and other diagnostic testing as directed by senior technicians.
- Assist with cable testing procedures such as VLF, power factor, and DC hipot testing under supervision.
- Assist with relay testing and calibration activities under the direction of experienced technicians.
- Travel to industrial and commercial customer sites to support field testing activities involving electrical systems ranging from approximately 480 volts to 600 kV.
- Follow all company safety policies and electrical safety procedures while working around energized equipment.
- Reference schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and technical documentation with guidance from senior technicians.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical equipment and identifying potential issues under supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of testing activities and assist with preparation of technical reports.
- Maintain testing equipment, tools, and instruments in proper working condition.
- Participate in training and professional development to build technical knowledge and skills related to electrical testing and NETA standards.
- Participate in scheduled after-hours support and emergency response activities as required.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years of electrical, technical, or field service experience.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems and electrical safety practices.
- Ability and willingness to learn electrical testing procedures and industry standards including NETA, NEC, NFPA, and OSHA.
- Must be able to safely perform work around electrical equipment and adhere to all company safety procedures.
- Must possess basic computer skills including email, internet use, and data entry.
- Must be able to travel locally and regionally with periodic overnight travel as required by project needs.
- Must be legally eligible to operate a motor vehicle with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
One or more of the following preferred:
- Associate degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), Electrical Technology, or similar program.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college.
- Relevant military training such as Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee programs.
- Prior exposure to electrical testing, commissioning, or maintenance of power systems.
- OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, or CPR/First Aid/AED certifications (training may be provided by AMP).
Employment Requirements
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment hair follicle drug screening and participate in periodic, unannounced random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy and customer requirements.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require current or future sponsorship.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.
- Must be willing and able to travel, including overnight travel, estimated at approximately 25% or more depending on project requirements.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including standing, walking, climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Additional Information:
Job: Full-Time
Location: Chattanooga, TN
Travel: 25%
Compensation: Pay ranges from $25 to $30 (depending on skillset, certifications, and experience) per hour and eligible for overtime. Daily meal and incidentals per diem available when traveling for overnight work.
