Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture, capillary punctures, and other specimen collection methods with precision and care, adhering to aseptic techniques
- Handle and process specimens according to laboratory protocols, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and transportation
- Maintain accurate documentation within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, including data entry of patient information and test orders
- Provide exceptional patient service by explaining procedures clearly, addressing concerns, and ensuring comfort during specimen collection
- Follow established laboratory procedures and safety guidelines, including blood sampling techniques and specimen handling protocols
- Monitor vital signs when necessary and assist with patient care activities as directed by healthcare professionals
- Support laboratory staff with routine tasks such as inventory management, equipment sterilization, and maintaining a clean work environment
Skills
- Proficiency in laboratory procedures, techniques, and specimen collection/processing methods
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical laboratory practices
- Experience with venipuncture (blood sampling), capillary punctures, and phlebotomy specimen handling
- Familiarity with hospital workflows, EMR/EHR systems, and data entry processes
- Excellent patient care skills with a focus on customer service across diverse populations including pediatrics and geriatrics
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and maintain physical stamina for long shifts
- Knowledge of basic life support (BLS) certification such as CPR or equivalent is highly desirable
- Attention to detail in specimen handling to prevent contamination or errors in test results
