Pharmacist – Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary
- We are seeking a qualified Pharmacist to join our pharmacy team. The Pharmacist will be responsible for accurately preparing and dispensing medications, monitoring patient drug therapies, providing clinical drug information, and supporting the daily operations of the pharmacy department.
- The Pharmacist will oversee clinical aspects of patient drug therapy and may assume leadership responsibilities and perform essential Pharmacy Director duties in the Director’s absence.
Key Responsibilities
Medication Preparation & Dispensing
- Prepare, fill, label, and safely dispense medications, parenteral medications, IV solutions, and drug containers.
- Ensure medications provided to patient care areas meet applicable legal, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Maintain accuracy and safety throughout the medication preparation and dispensing process.
Clinical Pharmacy Services
- Monitor patient drug therapies for safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness.
- Assess and apply age-specific considerations when evaluating medication therapy.
- Provide medication-related information and education to physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in clinical pharmacy activities in accordance with medical staff requirements, departmental policies, and established drug protocols.
Pharmacy Department Operations
- Maintain adequate medication supplies and manage pharmacy inventory.
- Maintain required pharmacy records and documentation in accordance with applicable laws and organizational policies.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and other technical personnel.
- Assist with formulary management and Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) changes as directed by the Pharmacy Director.
- Support the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy department.
Emergency Response
- Participate in Rapid Response Teams and Code Blue situations as required.
Quality, Compliance & Professional Development
- Complete annual pharmacy competency evaluations using the Pharmacy Competency Checklist.
- Participate in approved continuing education programs to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Understand and comply with the organization’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
- Report observed or suspected unethical, illegal, or questionable conduct to the appropriate Compliance Coordinator.
- Maintain effective and professional working relationships with healthcare providers, patients, staff, and other departments.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS) required.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.
Licensure
- Current, active license to practice pharmacy in the State of New Mexico.
- License must be in good standing and verifiable through the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy.
Experience
- 1–2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- New graduates with strong clinical rotation experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong clinical knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics.
- Understanding of age-specific medication considerations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation and dispensing.
- Effective leadership and supervisory skills.
- Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing technology.
- Strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers, including preparation of IV admixtures and computer/keyboard use.
- Ability to lift and carry light loads weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, walk, and stand for extended periods, typically 4–8 hours.
- Must be physically capable of safely operating pharmacy equipment.
Pay: $135,000.00 - $168,000.00 per year
