Job description:

The Montessori Toddler Assistant plays a pivotal role in the success of the classroom. Assistants provide essential, intelligent, and nurturing care for and guidance of our young students, ages 15 months to 3 years. Throughout the school day, week, and year, the classroom team collaborates to create and maintain a learning environment that is beautiful, safe, and engaging for every child in the community.

On the playground and in the classroom, Assistant Guides observe and support the children in their play, work, exploration, emotions, self-care, and social interactions. Assistant Guides aid children through a multitude of tasks, working with each child’s unique abilities and guiding everyone toward order, concentration, coordination, and independence. The classroom team quietly, diligently, and positively tends to the community (the children, their families, and one another), and to the environments (tidying, cleaning, organizing, and maintaining).

Lead and Assistant Guides participate in weekly collaborative team meetings. During team meetings, the guides discuss ways they can best serve the children. The guides discuss strategies for individual children, specific social dynamics within the community, school day routines, and topics for professional growth and development. Working collectively under the direction of the Lead Guide, the classroom team strives to provide consistent, kind, and gentle leadership for the young children in their care.
