General Definition of Work: |
The Automotive Instructor provides classroom and hands-on instruction aligned with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Career and Technical Education competencies for the Automotive Technology—Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) program. The instructor teaches foundational and advanced automotive service skills including safety practices, engine repair, electrical systems, brakes, steering and suspension, heating and air conditioning, and general vehicle maintenance. The position prepares students for industry-recognized credentials such as ASE Entry-Level Certifications through high-quality instruction, demonstration, and supervised shop activities. Work involves developing lesson plans, maintaining a safe and effective instructional environment, overseeing tools and shop equipment, assessing student learning, and ensuring compliance with state and local CTE program requirements. The Automotive Instructor collaborates with administrators, industry partners, and the CTE department to support career readiness, implement work-based learning experiences, and maintain program alignment with current industry standards. Performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: |

Education and Job Experience: |
· High School Diploma or equivalent. · Industry experience in automotive repair and servicing. · ASE Certifications (A-series and/or ASE Entry-Level). · Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience. · Experience in a dealership or professional repair facility. · Experience with the VDOE MLR curriculum framework.

Eligibility for or possession of a Virginia CTE License in Automotive Technology (Teaching Endorsement 8610). |
